Rabenstein

Rabenstein on the western edge of the city is the excursion district of Chemnitz, embedded in forests, rocks and the Oberrabenstein recreation area. Above the village towers Rabenstein Castle, considered the smallest castle in Saxony. The compact medieval residential tower with its ring wall houses a museum and offers an atmospheric insight into the region's history.

Right next door lie two more excursion destinations: the Oberrabenstein wildlife enclosure with native animals in spacious enclosures, and the Felsendome Rabenstein, a former limestone quarry whose underground halls and lakes can be walked through on guided tours. Around the Oberrabenstein reservoir, hiking trails, swimming spots and a climbing garden invite you to a day in the green.

Rabenstein is thus the recreation destination par excellence for families and active visitors. The mix of castle, wildlife park, cave world and nature makes the district a popular outing, especially in summer. From the center, Rabenstein can be reached by bus or car in around twenty minutes.
