Chemnitz in One Day
If you only have one day in Chemnitz, you experience the city of modernism best downtown and on the Kaßberg. We start at the Karl Marx Monument, the Nischel, continue to Theaterplatz with the Art Collections and to the market square with the Red Tower, stroll through the magnificent Wilhelminian Kaßberg quarter and let the day wind down at the Schloßteich.

A compact walk through the heart of Chemnitz with the most important landmarks, a cultural highlight and a relaxed finale by the water.

Karl Marx Monument (Nischel)
Begin at the city's best-known landmark: the monumental bronze head of Karl Marx on Brückenstraße. The Nischel is the ideal starting point to feel the distinctive mix of GDR legacy and modernism.
Tip: Right behind it, the inscribed wall recounts the famous appeal from the Communist Manifesto in several languages.

Theaterplatz and the Chemnitz Art Collections
On to the representative Theaterplatz with the opera house and St. Petri Church. In the Chemnitz Art Collections, an outstanding collection from Romanticism to classical modernism awaits you, including works by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff.

Lunch break at the Turmbrauhaus
Fuel up with Saxon cuisine and freshly brewed beer at the Turmbrauhaus, a popular brewpub in the middle of downtown.

Market square, Red Tower and Kaßberg
Stroll across the market square with the Old and New Town Hall and the Red Tower, the oldest building in the city. Then over to the Kaßberg, one of the largest Wilhelminian and Art Nouveau quarters in Germany, where magnificent façades await on every corner.

Dinner at the Kellerhaus
Stop in at the Kellerhaus, one of the oldest inns in the city, and let the day wind down over regional cuisine in a historic setting.

A walk by the Schloßteich
To finish, a quiet loop around the Schloßteich with a view of the Schloßberg and the Schloßkirche, the green oasis of the city right by downtown.
