Hilbersdorf

Hilbersdorf in the northeast of Chemnitz is closely linked to the history of the railway. Around the former marshalling yard, one of the first and largest of its kind in Germany, the Saxon Railway Museum has settled. In historic locomotive sheds and on extensive track systems, steam, diesel and electric locomotives as well as historic carriages can be seen, and on special event days some of them even run.

The district itself is a quiet mix of housing, commerce and railway installations and visibly carries the technical past of the industrial city within it. For railway fans and families the museum is a real highlight and a further building block of the rich Chemnitz industrial heritage.

Nearby lies the Küchwald, a large forested recreation area with an observation tower, a park railway and wide meadows. So the area around Hilbersdorf combines technical history and nature. From the center the district is well connected by bus and rail.
