District
Klaffenbach
Klaffenbach in the south is a rural district on the edge of Chemnitz, surrounded by meadows, fields and the valley of the Würschnitz brook. Its landmark is Klaffenbach Moated Castle, an elegant Renaissance building from the 16th century surrounded by a moat. The striking tower with its curved gables is reflected in the water and makes for one of the most beautiful photo subjects in the area.
Today the castle serves as a cultural and events venue with galleries, arts and crafts, a hotel and a restaurant as well as regular concerts and markets. Around the estate, a golf course, walking paths and the quiet landscape invite you to linger. This makes Klaffenbach a popular excursion destination for a relaxed day outside the city.
The district combines history, culture and nature in an idyllic setting and forms the green counterpart to downtown. Via the main road and public transport, Klaffenbach is easy to reach from the center and is especially worthwhile for an outing on a fine afternoon.
