Janssen Restaurant

The Janssen resides in the former William Janssen stocking mill from 1894, a stately testament to the city's industrial heyday, which lies directly on the bank of the little Chemnitz river and today shines in new splendor. The restaurant is entered via a bright, generous terrace where you can dine away from the noise and yet close to downtown. The combination of historic factory fabric, clear lines and a waterside setting gives the house a very distinctive, urban-elegant character.

On the table comes a seasonally changing menu that leads on a journey of discovery through international cuisine. Deliberate care is taken to balance fish, meat and vegetarian and vegan dishes, so carefully composed plates stand ready for every taste. An extensive wine selection rounds off the visit and is knowledgeably recommended to accompany the dishes. With around sixty seats, the restaurant remains intimate and personal, and the upscale price level reflects the standard of produce, preparation and service.

Thanks to its central yet quiet location, the Janssen is equally suited to the business meal, the festive occasion and a pleasurable evening for two. Anyone looking for cuisine at a high level in an atmospheric Wilhelminian setting, while enjoying the view of the water, will find in the old mill one of the most characterful culinary addresses in the center of Chemnitz.
