Kellerhaus Chemnitz
The Kellerhaus is one of the most beautiful and oldest buildings in Chemnitz and stands on the Schloßberg, the historic origin of the city above the Schloßteich. The cellar vaults possibly reach back to the year 1436; the house itself was built after the devastation of the Thirty Years' War around the mid-17th century on the much older cellar walls. In the 1990s, a carefully restored ensemble of half-timbered houses arose all around, so that on entering the guest steps into a world of heavy original beamed ceilings and stone walls.
The house became famous in the late 17th century through the Chemnitz Beer War, when beer was stored and served here in defiance of the strict guild rules. This history as the oldest inn in the area shapes the atmosphere to this day. On the table comes regional and European-inspired cuisine of solid quality, from hearty Saxon classics to seasonal dishes, accompanied by freshly tapped beer. The fair price level makes the Kellerhaus a reliable address for locals and guests alike.
With its location on the Schloßberg, in the immediate vicinity of the Schloßteich, the Schloßberg Museum and the former monastery complex, the Kellerhaus is the ideal place to stop on a walk through the historic castle quarter. Whether after a museum visit, as the destination of a Sunday outing to the pond or for a meal in historic walls: here the origins of the city meet honest regional hospitality.
