Restaurant Villa Esche

The Restaurant Villa Esche lies on the Kapellenberg in the former coach house of the Villa Esche, that total work of art the Belgian architect and Art Nouveau pioneer Henry van de Velde designed from 1902 for the stocking manufacturer Herbert Esche. The main villa today houses the Henry van de Velde Museum, and the neighboring coach house from 1903 became a bright, tastefully designed restaurant. Anyone who stops here dines at a place of architectural-historical rank, surrounded by the spirit of an era when Chemnitz ranked among the wealthiest industrial cities in Europe.

The kitchen stands for first-class, seasonal produce and an unadulterated, clearly composed signature. Guests can choose between a multi-course menu and the à la carte menu, and in summer an appealing terrace with a view into the park-like grounds beckons. Attentive service, a careful wine pairing and the cultivated ambiance make every visit an experience. The high price level reflects the upscale standard and places the Villa Esche among the finest addresses in the city.

The location on the Kapellenberg, one of the most sought-after residential quarters in the city on the edge of the park, combines cuisine and culture in a unique way. A visit combines wonderfully with a tour of the museum and the original interiors, so that architecture, art and enjoyment merge into a coherent whole. Anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion or to experience Chemnitz from its most elegant side is exactly right in the coach house of the Villa Esche.
